Information about Telogen Effluvium

By ashismith at 2009-12-29 00:04:16
Telogen effluvium is an abnormal loss of hair arising from alteration of the normal hair growth cycles. It is considered as a prominent alopecia cause. However, it is a poorly defined condition with very little research been done to understand this disease.

One of the best ways to differentiate between to two is to look at the regrowth. Because if you see miniaturization (hair that is coming in finer and more thin) than that can be a good indication that you are looking at AGA. This condition shrinks and compromises the follicles (due to the androgens) so that hair that grows back in will likely begin to just look different. It is often lighter in color and noticeably more fine in texture.

When many people think of inflammation of your scalp and hair follicles, (or issues like "burning scalp syndrome"), they usually think of dermatological issues like AGA (patterned, genetic thinning caused by androgens and DHT).

CTE is shedding that last for longer than six months, but countless people will tell you that it can last for literally years, sometimes longer. This is not as uncommon as you think.

Telogen Effluvium represents a sudden outflow of Telogen hairs more than normal daily hair loss. To understand this condition better, it's important to know about your hair growth cycle. Every hair follicle has a growth cycle where it grows, dies and sheds off. Your hair follicles will then grow new hairs back again replacing the shed ones.

Telogen effluvium often causes problems for women, though men are equally at risk if 'favorable' conditions present themselves. Take note that telogen effluvium is negative response from the body. It's never beneficial, and it is not a positive biological process.

Telogen effluvium is an abnormal loss of hair arising from alteration of the normal hair growth cycles. It is considered as a prominent alopecia cause. However, it is a poorly defined condition with very little research been done to understand this disease.

Telogen effluvium may easily be confused with Female Pattern Hair Loss. Correct diagnosis is important as there are various treatment options available. When the General Practitioner or Dermatologist find out that one is suffering from telogen effluvium, the most effective means to manage this is by using hair replacement prosthesis or scalp make up. Other hair replacement tools may also be used to conceal patches of hair loss.

Telogen effluvium is often the consequence of severe changes in the levels of hormones in the body. Unfortunately, this condition occurs more severely in women of advanced age. Women who are nearing their late fifties, and are already experiencing the signs of menopause should take into consideration the possibility of sudden hair loss.

Another possibility is that sometimes CTE (chronic telogen effluvium) will stunt the follicles and they will require a few trial runs and stops and starts to get things working property again. Finally sometimes medical issues (thyroid is one example) or scalp issues (infections or inflammation as the result of all the shedding) will affect the hairs that try to come back in. If you can address and fix these things, you'll often see much better quality hair as the result.
